He didn't look at her as she moved to sit beside him, nor when she spoke. She was willing to take the risk but he wasn't sure he was. "All it would take is one person who wanted to be in the sheriff's favor. Your maid to notice something different, a guard who notices your too eager to see the outlaw you should hate." He looked down at her after he'd spoke and wondered why she'd take a risk for a man she didn't even know that well.
"Why would you risk it? Your life, everything you have here. All we do it seems is fight; I say something arrogant you say something spoiled; and neither of us are back down people." She could have her pick of any man (if she learned to shut her mouth) and he wasn't sure why she'd risk everything for a man she'd only yell at. He did things to piss her off; she did thinks to piss him off; it was a circle. You didn't risk your neck for your enemies.
Robert wasn't sure what else to say; but he knew that she had been right a few moments ago. It was time to leave. He stayed away from his mother to spare her and his sister to protect her; and he'd stay away from Marian for the same reasons. She might not like the idea; but neither did he. Besides, he liked the idea and stealing her virginity and slipping out into the night even less. Unromantic and just the thought made him feel like an ass.

Marian shrugged off his concerns about her being found out. "Could be fun," she said in a teasing voice, she always did like putting herself in harm's way...so why wouldn't she do it now? In actuality, the possibility that she could be caught and the trouble she might get into if she was only made the whole thing that much more exciting. Marian liked risking her life, she liked the rush, and Robin just made it that much better.
Then he went and asked her why she'd bother risking it all just for him...good question. "Maybe I just don't care about anything I have here. Maybe I don't even care about my life." That wasn't true. She cared about her life; just not enough that she was willing to let it pass her by. She sighed, she didn't want to lie to him. "I like you because you're more exciting than any of the other men around here. And I'd rather live dangerously than sit back and wait for old age to claim me." She didn't want to die without ever really living.
Maybe it was foolish of her to act without considering the consequences, but Marian didn't care. Robin was worried enough about the consequences for the both of them. Someone had to be willing to do something stupid that would put them in danger, and if it wasn't him, it had to be her.

When she claimed that it could be fun he looked away and shook his head. He knew that she'd never see it from his point of view. It would take a close call for her to open her eyes and he wasn't about to let her get that close. If she wanted to risk her life doing something stupid; then let her do it with out making him the cause. Besides, he wasn't sure that being more exciting then the others was a good reason. It just meant either everyone else was boring or she--like the other girls--liked the outlaw rather then the man.
When he looked back at her, he knew that he didn't want it that way. He didn't want her to like him because he was an outlaw and dangerous. That was an idea for silly little girls with nothing better to do with their time then dream of silly little things. She seemed to have some sort of death wish; and he seemed to be apart of that.
"Why do you care so little about life? About your life? You fight everything around you as if you think that it's out to get you. What happened, Marian?" He asked her, not sure if something or someone had hurt her or twisted her since of normal to make her rebel so much. The thought made him angry at something or someone for her.

Marian frowned. "I do care about my life." She answered, although she wasn't quite sure whether she was trying to convince him or herself. "But...I want more from it than just this. I want to...I don't know, do something." Maybe not something that involved breaking laws or irritating the sheriff, but something that would make a difference. Maybe she just wanted people to notice her, but over time her desire to do something of importance had driven her to climbing out windows and trying anything to find something to occupy her.
She fought against...everything? She'd never looked at it that way, but...she didn't want to admit that he might be right about that. "I do not." She replied, looking away from him uncomfortably, aware of how petulant her answer sounded. So she was right back to saying spoiled things again. Even so...she didn't want to offer up an explanation for why she was the way she was. Why should she have to? She didn't pester him with questions about why he let his pride get to him so much that he put himself and the people he loved in danger.
"Why do you care?" Marian had to ask; no one ever wondered at why she was the way she was, they just labeled her as a black sheep and then cast her out for it.

"Then do something, Marian!" He told her when said said it. "Stop risking your life randomly and do something for the good. You want a place to start? You like to play the sheriff. Get him to let you help the people who need helping. Give them food and medicine that he wont let them have. Your in a position of power. You have his ear. Use it!" She had spent so long here just having fun, but claimed she wanted to help. She could help with out risking her neck! by giving the people what they needed she could keep men from being forced to break laws into to feed their children. Families could be together longer.
When she claimed she did not fight against everything he just stared at her waiting to see if she would notice that her comment seemed ironic. He had claimed she fought against everything and she had rebelled against even that claim. He didn't even have to try to make his point on that one; since she had made it for him.
Her questions wasn't one he could answer. Mostly it was because he wasn't sure he even knew why him self. He only knew that he had left England for war; and knew he'd miss every single 'English Rose' he was leaving behind. When he returned to England, he'd found them annoying at best of times. They had their moments; and he would swear til the day he died that he liked them better but with Marian he didn't have to watch his every move and keep his guard up. "Ask me something easier to answer."

She could...help people? Marian blanched at the idea, she'd really never even thought about it before. Sure, she had helped a few people out before, but mostly that was just to satisfy her own desire for thrills and law-breaking action. She'd never considered that she might be able to help people legally. Where was the fun in that? But did it have to be fun to matter? Maybe doing something worthwhile would be better than doing something fun. She didn't say anything while she considered his proposal, instead of just jerking the Sheriff around, she could get him to do something good.
Well, she wasn't totally sure she could do it; sure, he liked to please her and impress her, but she didn't know if he would consider doing something for the good of the people to be an impressive trait, or he probably would have given it a try. She could at least try. Maybe she'd tell him she was tired of all the sick, dirty, improperly clothed people moaning about how hungry they were. It was more likely than the possibility that Marian had suddenly grown a conscience. "...I'll think about it." She didn't want him to think he had an influence over her, after all, but she would give his whole 'not risking her neck' thing a try. Until it got too boring, at least.
She caught the look he gave her when she tried to say she didn't fight, and couldn't help a little chuckle. Okay, so maybe she wasn't helping her case. She didn't say anything in response, either, she just smiled at him. Then rolled her eyes at his answer. "I thought you were supposed to be the bad guy? You don't act it." She pointed out instead; it was true. A real bad guy wouldn't hesitate to take Marian up on her offer, he wouldn't be trying to 'protect' her, and he wouldn't encourage her to stop taking risks so she could help people legally. He was starting to seem more like the hero he claimed he definitely wasn't.

She'll think about? "You do that." He told her as if he didn't care about the answer she would end up giving her self. He did and he didn't. He rather her annoy the sheriff by using her womanly wiles to get him to ease up on the people rather then use her bull headedness to climb out windows and annoy the hell out of him. Besides, the sheriff wanted gold and he wanted Marian and it just might be a little bit fun to see which one he wanted more and how far he'd go to impress her.
Robert gave a deep chuckle when she rolled her eyes; clearly understanding she had made his own point with her fighting back. Maybe he was wrong about then not getting along; they seemed to be doing fine right now. "If you ask anyone in the world; they will tell you I am. Hell, my own mother is in the castle right now and would tell you I am." He'd not spoken to his mother since the morning he had left the estate after breakfast the day he had killed the man and gotten his self outlawed. He didn't know she saw his actions then or now. "I was a knight you know." He told her, "fought by the king's side once. Taught the prince how to handle a bow and arrow. Lived in London. Had friends--power--status. I came back from the war thinking the world owed me something for being there and coming back alive. When I found my lands taken and all my coins gone; I rebelled. I became then villain, your just too much like me to notice."
