.:Look:. Prince John is young and handsome, two traits he uses it to his advantage. He has shoulder-length dirty blonde hair which he runs his hands through constantly out of habit, making it look perpetually messy. He has grey eyes that give him a piercing glare when he needs it. He has a fondness for rich clothing, and likes to be dressed like a king. Despite his appearance, he is able to blend into a crowd easily. .:Basic Personality:. John is cold to people, but not completely heartless. When he puts his mind to something, he will see it through to the end, no matter what the cost. He is unendingly and unwaveringly loyal, if only to himself and his cause. He dislikes taking responsibility for his mistakes and will blame someone else for them, but he revels in his victories and gloats to anybody who will listen. He has been known to be sharp-tounged and quick-witted. He is offended easily and quick to anger. Despite his unplesant attitude, he is very intelligent and a clever stratigist.

.:History:. Prince John was born on Christmas Eve, 1166. He was passed to a wet nurse shortly after his birth, as was the custom. He had a rather uneventful childhood. He and his sister, Joan, were sent to Fontevrault Abbey when John was very small. As such, his parents were not involved in his childhood much at all. When it seemed to his father, King Henry II, that John wouldn't be recieving any form of substancial land as an inheritance, he jokingly nicknamed John "Lacksland". He was small at the time, and didn't understand the title, but as he grew older, the nickname began to wear at him and he became increasingly irritated at the moniker, as it was a reminder of how he wasn't treated the same as his elder brothers. By the time he was a teenager, he would snap at anyone who would call him it.
When he was seven years old, his elder brothers and his mother planned a revolt against the King. John didn't understand what was going on at the time, but later learned about it. During this time he lived and traveled with his father. John quickly became his father's favorite son, despite being the farthest in succession for the throne. He was given lands by his father, usually at the expense of other nobles. When he was ten, John was appointed Lord of Ireland.
After a short war in 1183, Henry the Young King died, and Richard was made heir to the throne. Lands were re-distributed and John became Duke of Aquitaine instead of Richard. However, Richard refused to give up Aquitaine. Henry then ordered John, with help from his brother Geoffery, to go to battle for it. After a brief war, the family tensly reconsiled and John was given Aquitaine.
In 1185, John made his first visit to Ireland. Armed with three hundred soldiers, a team of administrators and his overconfidence, John was positive that the visit would go off without a hitch. What actually happened, was a different matter entirely. The trip as a disaster; John lost military ground against the Irish, failed to make allies with the Anglo-Norman settlers and, in an infamous swoop of political and social faux-pas, insulted the local Irish lords by making fun of their unfashionably long beards. John returned within the year, blaming the entire fiasco on the viceroy: Hugh de Lacy.
Geoffery died in 1186, bringing John one step closer to the throne. Richard, wanting to leave and join the Third Crusade, was afraid that Henry would name John successor in his absence. Henry joined forces with King Phillip of France in a campagin against Henry. John originally sided with his father, but quickly changed sides when it was obvious that Richard would win. Richard and Henry made a truce, in which Henry promised them that Richard would be his successor. Henry died shortly after.
Richard was crowned King in 1189. Still intending to join the Crusade, he began earning the money to do so. John married Isabel at this time and was given the counties of Cornwall, Derby, Devon, Dorset, Nottingham and Somerset along with valuable lands in Lancaster; all with the intent of vying his loyalty to Richard during the war. It would've worked, except that Henry retained control of several vital castles in the counties, thereby preventing John from gaining too much political and military power. In return, John promised to stay outside England until Richard returned home. This condition was overturned at the urging of Eleanor and John was allowed back into England. Richard left for the Crusades, and John siezed power as soon as Richard was too far out of reach to do anything about it, Richard was kidnapped and thus our Role Play starts.
