Unfortunately, this was not another escape attempt. It wasn't that Marian had learned her lesson or anything, that would be like giving up, and she hated that idea. She had simply determined that she needed to put a bit more thought into her next attempt if she was going to get away...what with bloody irritating bandit kings deciding they needed to interfere in her life. Her stroll through the woods today had been completely spontaneous; she'd only meant to find the castle kitchens when she'd started exploring, but when she'd found an open door, she decided to poke a little further. And when no one even looked twice at her as she made her way out of the castle, she didn't stop.
So getting out of the castle was no problem; apparently the Sheriff didn't care one way or another where she was, as long as she wasn't in his hair. That was good to know, she supposed. It didn't help her cause much, as dodging castle guards wasn't so much trouble as finding her way through the woods...although it was a lovely day for a walk. Throwing caution to the wind, she decided that if she was going to wander, she might as well do it someplace that smelled like pine needles and moss, rather than piss and sweat, so she veered off the road to the town and ventured into the woods. She wouldn't go too far, she told herself, so she didn't think she'd find any trouble.
But as she walked, she let her thoughts get away from her. The trees here weren't so different from the forests around London. She'd spent a fair amount of time in those woods, hunting with other nobles, or going riding with her sister. She missed her friends, and especially her sister. It was even more depressing when she thought that she could never go back; at least, not if her plans all worked out. London wouldn't be an option if she had to escape her looming marriage, she'd become a social pariah. Which was why thinking about it only made her even more depressed. She'd been trying not to think about these things, but now, she found it difficult not to. She paused in a clearing, looking back over her shoulder at the direction she'd come, wondering if she shouldn't just go back. Her leisurely walk was doing nothing to raise her spirits.
