William, or the Sheriff of Nottingham as most knew him by, rode through the market on his horse. As black as coal, the horse was more for show, to scare people, than anything else. Sitting high atop the beast, William was even more imposing than normal, and the townspeople looked away as he came near, not meeting his eye. Behind him rode two sheriffs, accompanying him in keeping the laws of the land.
"Check the shops, make sure the owners paid their shop fees." The order was direct as the two sheriffs spoke their compliance, both leaving in different directions to go about their duties. It was then that something caught the sheriff's eye, a girl no older than 16, trying to hide something beneath her ratty cloak. With a swift kick to the horse, William rode over to the girl, stopping the horse directly in her way.
"What are you hiding beneath your cloak?" As he was asking, William was dismounting his steed, his boots hiding the dirt with a loud thud. "Nothing sir..." The girl looked down as William reached out, opening her cloak to reveal a small basket of fruit, hidden beneath her arm. "I assume you paid for these?"
He didn't need to wait for the answer, the look on her face was enough. Putting his fingers to his lips, William let out a shrill whistle that brought the two sheriffs back to him. "I caught this girl stealing. Make sure that the owner gets his fruit back. Arrest her and figure out who her family is. They will need to compensate the merchant for the trouble that this girl has caused." Mounting his horse again, William watched as one of the sheriffs left their horse and took hold of the girl's arm, escorting her away. Things in the market were never peaceful.

Robert was living up to his name. Ironic! His hood pulled low over his face to hide who he was; giving him a sort of idiotic look. He yanked it off and handed the cape over to some random passerby. He was a bloody Earl! Or was! He was not about to lower himself to sneak around as if no one would wonder why some fool is hiding under a hood on a friggin' sunny day!
Now had it been raining! THAT would have been another story! For now he simply knew that he would have to stay out of sight and in some ally while waiting for a change to meet with one of the oh so lovely maids in the castle and find out what his favorite person was up to!
As it was, it was that moment that he heard the whistle and walked down to the other end of the ally to see what was going on. He grinned and looked up at the sky. The good Lord loved him to day. Pulling out his bow; and a single arrow he waited until they had the girl in a distance range--to show off--before sending his arrow to embed it's self in the fleshy part of the guard's arm so he'd let the girl go. The next arrow, grazed the still mounted guard's horse so it reared up and started running. Stepping out he took a bow; "For my next trick, I shall make something disappear." Pulling out another arrow he took aim at the sheriff. "Care to see who can whistle louder?"

In the blink of an eye it seemed, there was chaos. Arrows flying through the air, their distinctive humming as they broke through the air was what William focused on. The arrows were aimed at the lawmen, there was no doubt about it. Of course, there was no shock that at the other end of the arrows was the infamous 'Robin Hood' as so many people loved to call him. William just called him a nuisance.
"Any man who brings me the Robin Hood will be exempt from taxes for a year, and earn a reward of one hundred shillings." Through the chaos in the market, William shouted his offer and watched as heads turned, facing the man with the arrows. If nothing else, the mass of villagers attempting to capture Robin Hood would at least help William. They couldn't make the circumstances any more annoying.
With the confusion that both the arrows and William had caused, there were now villagers running all around. With the taxes being raised recently, the people were starving, and William had just offered them a life of wealth. At least, wealth in relation to their village counterparts.
Digging his heels into his horse, William held tightly as the horse surged forward, running amongst the villagers in the direction of Robin Hood. His body hugged the body of the horse, his low behind the horse's. He was no fool, he wouldn't sacrifice himself.
Racing towards Robin Hood, William was prepared to leap from the horse if something should go wrong. Getting close, William pulled his sword from his waist and spun it in mid air, intent on cutting right through the bow, or at least the string. He didn't want Robin Hood dead, yet. The man would hang in front of everyone, when that time came.

The sheriff charged his horse forward and Robert watched him for a moment before he laughed at the overly dramatic charge (or at least undermine the man) and darted back down the ally in which he'd came. Robert was a rather strong follower of the idea to run away and live to run away another day. He could press his ground when he wanted; but watching them give chance and loose ground amused the hell out of him.
He cared not if the sheriff tried to claim he was a coward; for the people who knew him knew other wise. He did not play this game to amuse the public but fight a personal injustice. This 'war' had started between him and the sheriff and it had only just grown public since he'd been outlawed. As Robert spent more time around the people who were hurting; the war between two men became something slightly bigger.
Robert was known as Robin now that he was outlawed. A lower class name for a good for nothing outlaw. In case the sheriff decided to follow him down the ally, Robert pulled over some barrels that lined between the buildings hoping ti slowed the horse or the man down.
