This is the tale
of Allan A'Dayle
And how he doth fare
Minstrel Extraordinaire
.:Name of Character:. Allan A’Dayle
.:Alias:. None really, other than the charming nicknames others come up with for him
.:Birth Date:. May 3rd
.:Age In 1192:. 24
.:Look:. Allan is not a man of noble blood nor does he hold the appearance of such. He is of medium height and build, never having done any extensive weapon training to make him look as muscular as some knights. He has brown hair which often has that untamed look to it and large eyes which are never too serious. His clothing is that of a wanderer’s, clad in neutral colors and often worn in layers. He is usually found with an instrument in his hand and his slingshot by his side.
.:Height:. 6 feet
.:Portrayed by:. Peter Mooney
.:Basic Personality:. Allan A’Dayle is a jolly ol’ fellow. He is one who never takes anything too seriously, which can also be a rather irritating quality, depending on the circumstance. He is the glass half full kind of guy, always looking on the brighter side of things regardless of how the odds look. He has a fantastic sense of humor, never failing at offering a good joke every now and then, even in the most serious situation; which again, can make him a bit more irritating than appreciated. He loves his drink and enjoys spending coin at the tavern where he can enjoy the company of people, and women. Oh women! A strong weakness of his, as he is charming and loves to flaunt this charm when in the presence of the lady folk. He especially likes showing off his musical talent in front of them; serenading them with a song.
Music plays a huge part in his life. Since he was capable of holding an instrument, he has always been playing something and singing some tune. His voice is rather melodic as he can carry a beat, and can be of immense entertainment whether it be by offering just music, singing a song, or a telling a tale. It makes the darker times seem brighter, the quiet times seem more uplifted, and the times where silence is required to be disrupted by his seemingly unceasing playing, singing, or chatter. He is good at keeping up other people's morale, especially in time of distress. He can give good advice and often motivate others to raise their spirits and not dwell in sadness. He comes up with excellent ideas for the group, sometimes overly random and far too spontaneous, other times very resourceful and rather ingenious.
.:Accents:. Lower class English, though can mimic other accents
.:Alliance:. Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men
.:Rank:. Outlaw
.:Wanted For:. Theft, breaking and entering, impersonation, and the list is growing longer and longer from whatever Robin and the other merry men gets him into
.: Special Skills:.
- Talented musician, singer and story teller: he can be quite the minstrel
- Is excellent with a slingshot shooting with the utmost precision and aim
- Mimicking other people’s voices and accents [tends to come in handy every now and then, or just drive a person insane]
- Has quite the creative mind: as he often creates tales and things to sing about, his creativity can come in handy, but it can also just create ridiculous ideas
- Is good at improvising: he is fairly good at thinking of things on the spot and using what resources he has available to create whatever he needs
- A fast runner: he is a ridiculously speedy runner which has obviously proved to be an asset in his lifestyle as an outlaw
- The idea man: he tends to be the man who comes up with ideas for them, whether they be preposterously random, or rather ingenious.
- A craftsman: he learned how to make a few things from his father as it was his trade, so often makes his own instruments and other items of use
.:Weaknesses:.
- Is not overly skilled with a sword or bow and arrow
- Does not take things seriously, even when he has to
- Lacks proper discipline as he is rather carefree and restless
- Loves to drink when he gets the chance, to the point of getting fully drunk and incoherent
- Has a bit too much fun in life and can be easily distracted from the task at hand
- Tends to be reckless and not think before he speaks or acts
- Illiterate: he can not read or write and has a poor formal and academic education
.:Weapon Training:. Allan is not very skilled with any particular weapon. He is decent with a sword and can hold his own, but is by no means an expert as he was never formally trained. He is slowly learning from Robin how to better fight with one. He is a bit better with a bow and arrow but again is nowhere near the same level as Robin or any other properly trained individual. His weapon of choice and expertise is a slingshot. It may be small, but it can do wonders when used properly.
.:Birthplace:. Willowsdale
.:Family:. Mostly deceased, though he may have some extended relatives out there, somewhere
.:History:. Allan was born into a poor family who barley had enough food to feed the three members of it. It was only him, and his mother and father and had remained like that for his upbringing. His father was a craftsman and his mother stayed at home to raise her only son. With their low standard of living, and less than wealthy status, they just barley scraped by. Living in a small home, with only one or two meals a day, they somehow managed to survive. Allan at a young age was quite a chatterbox, and a restless soul as he wandered out of the comfort of his home from the moment he could crawl. To better occupy his time and distract him, Allan’s father made him a flute to put his time and creative mind to better use. From the moment it touched his lips, Allan was addicted to music. It started with a flute, but he managed to obtain almost every musical instrument imaginable. He loved singing and his melodic voice and imaginative tales of song managed to gain them a few extra coin as he sang on the street and was paid for his talent.
Unfortunately, not all was happening for the better. When Allan was sixteen years old, his mother and father both grew severely ill and it did not take long until both of them passed away from this sickness. As Allan spent most of his time outside, on the street or just wandering around, he managed to avoid this sickness. But this devastating loss turned his life upside down. Unable to meet payments for the house or land, he was stripped of his home and belongings. All he took with him was whichever musical instruments he could gather and he ventured into the world, alone and vulnerable. He continued to sing for coin, finding shelter where he could and food where he could get it, sometimes even steal.
This continued on for several months until Allan grew restless and bored having remained in the same small town for the entirety of his life. He decided to go out into the real world, which really, was probably not a good thing at all. He traveled the land, never staying too long in once place, until he turned nineteen where another life altering event took place. Bored with his lifestyle, he decided to do something daring, reckless, and down right stupid. Women were his weakness, and he found himself absolutely taken by a woman of far higher standing than he had ever seen. Wanting to charm her, he stole the attire of a knight, and owner of the estate he had come across, and dressed himself, posing as a knight. He wasted no time whatsoever. Using his skill of mimicry, he successfully copied the accent of a higher class noble. He managed to charm the woman, woo her, serenade her and soon enough, bed her.
Now what Allan did not know, nor take the time to figure out, was that she was not only a noblewoman, but also the wife of the man who owned the estate he had sneaked into. As if his luck had not been worse enough, he was caught having relations with this woman by none other, than her husband himself. Allan managed to leap out of the window just in time before getting struck to death, and quickly fled the town. Now, he would not technically call himself an outlaw, though he likes the rebelliousness of its sound, but he is indeed guilty of impersonating a noble as well as theft, and adultery [though in his defense, both parties had consented to it]. This however, was enough to make him lay a bit lower than usual, afraid of being caught or recognized by someone. He continued to travel the lands, well away from the location of that unfortunate event, and it would not be until he came across Robin that he would find someone to rightfully place his loyalty to.
