Robb tapped the windowsill distractedly as he looked out into the street, watching as people hurried to and fro on their way to the market. He had promised his mother he wouldn't leave the house while she was working, and since she couldn't find anyone to keep an eye on him, she had to trust him. He wanted her to trust him, he was old enough to have some responsibility now...but he also didn't want to be cooped up inside the house when there were important things he could be doing instead! Important things like...making sure all was well in the town of Nottingham. He had responsibilities, to the people of Nottingham, and if that meant he had to go against his mother's trust...well, she'd understand. Besides, he could be home before she even knew he was gone. What she didn't know wouldn't hurt her!
Having thus reasoned his way out of obedience, he made his way through the narrow streets, slingshot in hand, ready to do his part to keep the people of Nottingham safe. Once he reached the market, he found a good perch on a rooftop where he could keep an eye on things, and settled in to keep watch. He didn't have to wait long before he saw just what he was looking for...a bunch of armored thugs playing at being guardsmen, harassing a tailor for taxes. Sitting up straight, he took aim with his slingshot, and sure enough, he struck the lead thug right in the back of the head with a nice round stone! He smiled, looking quite pleased with himself...until he noticed the guard turning and looking his eyes on him. "Shoot!" He exclaimed, sliding off his perch and making a break for the nearest way out of the market.
He didn't even notice if the guards gave chase or not, instead taking his favorite winding streets to lose them, just in case. Once he was sure that he was safely away, he stopped, leaning back against a building to catch his breath, still smiling to himself. That was so awesome! [Open!]

For the first time in quite a bit she had been allowed to walk the town without a guard tailing her. Evelyn reveled in the chance to be out in the open, amongst people that she hadn't been forced to smile at and spew lies toward. The villagers didn't know who she was and, if any of them did, they did not approach her. She could be any noblewoman out for a stroll in the market. Her freedom was limited, however. She was only allowed to stay within the confines of the city without requring a guard. As much as she wished to go out to seek her brother, she knew that to risk sneaking out beyond the gates was too dangerous. Instead she busied herself walking amongst the stalls, not buying anything. Her extra money would be sent to her brother, if she ever managed to see him.
A flash of movement out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. She turned quickly, just catching a familiar brunette running past. Forgetting that she was suppoed to be surveying the cloths before her, she abadoned the stall to follow the boy. Catching up to him, she grinned. What had he done this time?
"Robert," she said, greeting the boy that she had known since his birth. The boy that reminded her so much of her brother. "What have you done now?" she questioned, her jovial tone changing to concern. There was too much trouble that a boy like him could get up to in the city. His darting past her had been enough evidence that he had done something that warranted a get-away.

Robb was still chuckling to himself, patting himself on the back for a successful ambush, when he heard someone addressing him...by his Christian name, no less. It could be only one of two people, then...it was either one of the noble ladies his mother worked for. His mother said she wanted to name him Robb, but the priest insisted that wasn't a proper name for a good Christian, so she'd consented to calling him Robert, but only officially. He looked up to see none other than Evie before him, and he grinned impishly up at her...a grin that quickly dissolved when she asked him what he was up to.
He looked down quickly, guiltily, before he looked up and shook his head. "Nothin'." He answered, looking up at her with big, guilty eyes, even as he remembered the slingshot he clutched in his right hand and quickly hid it behind his back. That wasn't incriminating at all. He had to get her mind off of his alleged crimes, and fast. "How come you always call me that? Even mum calls me Robb." Asking questions would distract her! She would forget entirely if he just kept her busy with other things. He did his best to look innocent and curious as he looked up at her, scuffing his shoe in the dirt.

Evelyn watched as his expression changed once she had asked what trouble he had gotten into. His charm would not work on her; she herself had used the clever tool enough in her childhood to get out of scrapes. She kept a small smile upon her lips, quite entertained in wishing to hear of the tale he would come up with. But instead he was trying to hide his 'weapon' and distract her. Amateur.
"I call you Robert," she said, moving to attempt to pluck the slingshot from his hand. "Because that is your name." True, that was one of the reasons that she called him by his full name. But the other was that since he reminded her so much of her own brother that she couldn't help but call him by the shared name. She crouched down, being mindful of her skirts lest she get dirt upon them, and looked into his eyes.
"Mind yourself, please. You'll worry your mother sick if you get into any trouble here." In Locksley she might have laughed over his antics, maybe even helped him hide his slingshot. But Nottingham was a nest of trouble. He could face possible danger in the city.

Robb tried to look like he was listening attentively as she spoke, but he was distracted when Evie reached over to take his slingshot! Darnit, he hadn't hidden it fast enough. He tried to keep it out of her reach, but unfortunately, the woman had longer arms than he did, and she managed to take his weapon away without too much trouble. It was bad enough mum was always taking his slingshots away, now he had to worry about Evie too?
"Evvvvviiiiiie!!!! He exclaimed plaintively, trying to steal it back without much success, before he narrowed his eyes at her and scowled. "Stealing is not very lady-like." He told her crossly, ignoring the fact that causing mischief wasn't very good behavior, either. He wasn't a noble, or a lady! She was both, and he knew how Lady Vivian had always been on her to act like it...it had cost them many good times when they had been younger, back at Locksley.
She warned him about making his mother worried, and he made a face at her. "Mum worries if I so much as leave the house. If I start worrying about her worrying we'll both get sick!" He reasoned, it was the truth! Mum worried so much he was surprised she could get out of bed anymore, if worrying really did make people sick. Well, mum said it was worry that had made Lady Vivian sick...but she was probably just saying that.

Evie gripped the slingshot tightly, sticking it into the chain of her girdle in order to secure it against herself. She covered it with the folds of her cloak, hiding it from view. She couldn't walk back to the castle with a slingshot in sight. Too many questions, too many eyes watching her.
"And who ever said I was lady-like?" she questioned him, a teasing smile upon her lips. Although it was too dangerous for him to be around court, she wished that Robb was able to visit more often. She was allowed to be the old Evie then, rather than the stiff Lady Evelyn. She bit her lip in order to not laugh when he spoke of himself and his mother getting sick over his adventures. He was a funny one, though she couldn't admit it now.
"I think she'll rest easier if you'd stay out of trouble," she said, standing up. "That way, you won't have to worry about her."

He watched with mournful eyes as she stowed his toy away, but he already knew he could make another one. He just needed a couple of sticks...he could find them by the outskirts of the village. And some twine. He'd either have to do it before mum came home, or after she left tomorrow morning, so he'd have time to hide it properly. He couldn't lose two good slingshots to these womenfolk in one day! He couldn't help but smile a bit when she questioned just how much of a lady she was, well, she certainly wasn't all stuffy like the other noble ladies he'd seen about!
"Not me, that's for darn sure." He agreed, no, his Evie was no lady with a stick up her rump and her nose in the air, she was just that, his Evie. Even if she was a fun-stealing stick in the mud sometimes. He considered what she said about his mother resting easier if he didn't have so many adventures for a moment...then dismissed it out of hand. "Nah, I don't think that would help. She just likes worryin', I'm pretty sure." He nodded, that sounded more accurate to him. "Do you gotta go? Already?" Robb asked when she stood up, looking up at her with puppy dog eyes. He missed Evie, she hardly ever came to see him anymore.

Evelyn knew that she would have to dispose of the slingshot before she returned to the castle. It wouldn't do for the weapon to fall from her girdle before a knight or some other noble. Not after she'd spent all this time sculpting her image into the picture of a proper lady. She was unable to hold back her laughter as he mentioned Marian actually enjoying fretting after him. "I fear that it's a trait of all mothers," she replied, knowing that her mother's worry was the reason why she refrained from leaving her chambers. The thought sobered the young woman.
That was, until Robb asked if she had to leave. Despite her worry over her mother a smile slipped onto her lips. "For you, I have all the time in the world," she answered, truly rather being in his company than going back to court. She checked the small pouch at her girdle, glancing at the coins inside. "Have you eaten yet today? Perhaps we could get you a meal and a pasty?"

He nodded emphatically when she agreed with him about mothers. It was like a pastime for them, or something! "She'd get bored if I just did as I was told all the time." It wasn't like she had anything else going on; nope, when he wasn't around, she was probably just sitting around, waiting for him to come back, and not to forget worrying about him! "Sides, what if I died of boredom? Then she'd just be sad, and I think that's worse than the worryin'." He had no end of rationale to support his mischief-making. He was a tiny little excuse machine!
He grinned happily when she told him she could stay, pleased that she wasn't just going to pop in, take all his fun, and then jot back off to the castle. One of these days, he was going to go up there and see what the big deal was about, why everybody was always going there, and more especially, why mum wouldn't let him go there! He grinned more when she suggested getting a meal; he had eaten some bread and cheese that morning, but he was a bit hungry. Mum always made sure he had something to eat, but keeping the town of Nottingham safe required a lot of energy! "Really, Evie?" He lit up, excited at the prospect of good food. He missed being able to sneak into the kitchens at Locksley and sweet talk the cook into giving him a bit of whatever treats she was cooking up for the nobles.

As if Marian's only duty was to sit around all day worrying about her son. Evelyn knew that the woman did far more than that, mostly consisting of looking after her mother. Frankly, she wasn't sure if she would have been able to look after the woman if it hadn't been for Marian. The servant's loyalty to the Locksley clan, despite their disgrace, was heartwarming. It was why she knew that she would look out for the Coopers whenever possible, starting with making sure her only son ate. "You should enlighten her with your theory one day," she teased, withdrawing her purse from her girdle. She gripped it securely, gesturing for him to follow her. "What are you hungry for? I smelled fresh bread not too long ago. Or maybe a meat pie?" Her stomach grumbled at the thought of food. She hadn't bothered to eat that morning, to intent on getting out of the castle and into the daylight.

His eyes widened a bit when Evelyn suggested sharing his theory with his mother about how she spent her days...somehow, that didn't seem like a good idea. Robb followed Evie eagerly, excited both to spend time with his favorite noble --who hardly even seemed like a noble when she was with him-- and at the prospect of getting something delicious to eat. "Can I have a meat pie, please? It's been a while since I had any meat!"
Meat was expensive, and mum couldn't afford it very often. She did her best, but that usually meant bread and butter and not much else. As they moved through the market, Robb became somewhat wary, as he realized that the guard he'd attacked might still be around, and he wasn't sure whether or not the man had actually seen him. But..as long as he was vigilant...they should be okay! But he'd have to be careful, since Evie had taken away his slingshot, he wouldn't have any way to protect her if trouble came along. He'd have to create a distraction so she could run away.
