Why did the sheriff do this to himself? Poor little dumb ass; thought he could just host a archery contest and magically catch him an outlaw while keeping his coin tucked in his pocket. Yet the man never learned: No one was a better archer then Robert. Robin. Or whatever the uneducated masses were calling him now. Someone how it went from Robert; to Robin of the woods to Robin Hood. Could they not make up their bloody minds?!
Some men were better with a sword; some men could take him down with their bare hands; but when it came to a bow Robert found none better. His years of hunting with his father; and learning to breathe with his shot and to take perfect aim meant that the sheriff was going to get robbed; and Robert was going to show off.
Again.
He had his hood up(was that were the hood name came from?) and he sat under a giant oak tree; not far from the field. Robert was watching the men practice; taking in his competition so he could see who he would need to beat and how much he could down play his aim and still win; yet not give himself away. Around him were stacks of firewood; so he could pass off as a wood cutter.
Robert noticed a group of young boys running by; and Robb one of them. Robert stayed still and his hood low until they passed before him; then he pushed forward and grabbed the boy by his shirt to pull him out of the crowd. He waited as the others went on before speaking. Knowing the boy favored him; Robert decided he would ask him for a favor. "Cooper." He used his last name; because too many Robbs for confusing. Robb was excited. Far more excited than he should have been just for there being an archery contest today, but that was because of what he'd worked out last night. It all made so much sense! He was even so excited that he was willing to forgive the fact that his mother had kept the truth from him for so long...well, mostly. He was still a bit mad with her. How could she lie to him his whole life? Especially after Robin had returned to England! He had a right to know who his dad was...and Robin had to know that he had a son!
Which led to his current excitement about the competition; he knew Robin would be there! He had to prove that he was better than everyone else, of course, and it would give Robb just the chance he needed to track him down. But he'd be in disguise, so Robb would have to be extra vigilant. And that's what he was being, extra-attentive to everything going on around him as he ran along with the other boys as they tried to find the best place to watch from, right up until he was jerked to a halt suddenly and found himself face to face with the very person he'd been searching for. His vigilance had paid off! "Robin!" He exclaimed, before hastily looking around to make sure no one else had heard him. Oops.
"Sorry." He whispered, although the moment for stealth had passed. No guards seemed to be descending on them right now, though, so he figured his little slip had gone unnoticed. And there were more important things to worry about right now! "But that's not my name!" He insisted, he knew better now, and he couldn't bear to have Robin, of all people, call him by that. "I worked it out! I know the truth!"

"Robin!" He hated that name; but better the kids used the false ones and people started to forget that he was once one of them. They seemed more willing to forget he was once an elite member of them; since they did not like the idea of one of their own turning from them; and stealing from them. "Just give me away; Cooper!" Robert hissed out; not really annoyed but knew that he could get them both killed.
After that the kid was rambling but Robert needed a distraction and a curious kid asking questions could be shooed on and no one would think twice if. "Yeah; you did; cause your a smart kid!" Though he didn't know what they were talking about. "So smart in fact that I picked you to work with me today rather then all the other boys in the yard!" As long as Cooper didn't tell his mother. That was the rule. Robert was assuming the kid had a code name; or an outlaw name that he was pretending to use and as to not encourage that track; he didn't ask about it.

"Sorry!" Robb insisted again when Robin called him out on his slip-up again, but he didn't think it had done any harm, since no one seemed to have noticed them. That was the important thing! But Robin wasn't really listening to him, he could tell from the way he just went along with him in that patronizing way. "Don't be an ass, this is important!" He insisted, the outlaw would always be his hero, for more than one reason, but the man could really be a jerk sometimes.
"I know why you really picked me!" He insisted, and not just today, either! He knew why Robert had picked his shot to reveal his presence all those months ago, it explained everything! Absolutely everything, and it was so simple and made so much sense that he actually felt kinda silly for not having pieced it together sooner. "I figured out who you really are, and I know that I'm your son!" He blurted out, just getting right to it because he figured that would just be best, they could both just acknowledge it and then he could help with whatever his father needed!

"Don't be an ass, this is important!" What was it with people cursing?! When he left England only men did it! "Oy; watch that mouth; if your mother hears it there will be hell to pay!" Mainly for Robert; but that wasn't the point! The point was; when you were young enough to still NEED you're mother you were too young to curse. "Grow some hair on your chest before you speak to your elders that way brat."
"I know why you really picked me!" Happen stance! . . . . Oh bloody hell. Did the kid know about him and his mother? Not that there was anything to know; but Robert had been seeking her out at the tavern lately. "I figured out who you really are, and I know that I'm your son!" his what?
Robert stared at him for a moment is shock before speaking up; "Kid; I am only going to say this once---I don't have a wife; and I don't have a son." He knew that this kid wasn't sire because he had not even bothered to look at servants until he was outlawed! He'd need in London most the time before the war; and in the Holy lands for the fire years before he'd been outlawed! "Whatever you have though you knew; is wrong."

Robb looked slightly guilty when Robin called him out on his language...mum would not be impressed. But at least he had gotten the man's attention, which had been the goal! He stored that knowledge away for later, when he might need it again, and focused on the task at hand. He would be allowed to swear when he was older, apparently. He watched Robin's face carefully, watching the moment of guilty realization when he revealed that he knew why he was selected. There it was! Evidence that he was right!
In the minute it took Robin to process the information, Robb was practically shaking with excitement. Would Robin admit to it right away, now that he knew how smart Robb was to have pieced it all together? It was a pretty convoluted puzzle, and he'd sorted it out all by himself, after all! He hadn't mentioned the revelation to his mother, of course, because she'd just deny it more. When Robin insisted that he didn't have a wife or a son, Robb gave him an indulgent smile.
"I know you don't actually have to be married to have a kid!" He pointed out. He didn't know the particulars of baby-making, but he knew that lots of unmarried women had kids, so that couldn't be pre-requisite. "And I know you know my mum! And why else would she name me after you?" It all made sense! So why was Robin trying to lie to him? For his own protection or something? He'd heard of sons being named after their fathers, or grandfathers, but never just after random men! He liked to think his mother had put more thought into his name than that.
